- The TOEIC® Test lasts two-and-a half hours.
- It has 200 questions.
- All of the questions are multiple-choice.
- There are two sections, listening and reading. However TOEIC® Test aims to test and grade all four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- There are 100 listening comprehension questions and 100 reading comprehension questions.
- The number of people who took the TOEIC® Test rose from 460,000 in 1991 to more than 1.4 million in 1997.

Timing |

- The administrative formalities take about 30 minutes.
- The listening comprehension questions take 45 minutes.
- The reading comprehension questions take 75 minutes.

| Scores |
| |
- Results are a score between 10 and 990. These come from a score out of 495 for reading and a score out of 495 for listening.
- The TOEIC® Test produces a table which matches these scores to a level of English proficiency. There are seven levels. These levels are:
905 - 990 International Proficiency
785 - 900 Working Proficiency Plus
605 - 780 Limited Working Proficiency
405 - 600 Elementary Proficiency Plus
255 - 400 Elementary Proficiency
185 - 250 Memorised Proficiency
10 - 180 No Useful Proficiency
- Scores are generally returned within 10 days.
