General hints and tips

Things to try first
Sometimes the problems you are having may not be caused by our software. Before looking further, please go through the following checklist

1.
Does your computer meet the minimum specification for the CD-ROM?
Check the information printed on the disk or in the manual, or look at the details given on the support page for your title.

2.
Do you have enough free disk space on your computer?
The amount of space needed is given on the screen during the installation. If you do not have enough free space, cancel the installation, delete any unwanted files, and try again.

3.
Check there are no scratches or dust on the CD-ROM
Any dust or dirt on the disk may prevent your computer from reading the disk. Take out the disk, and wipe it with a soft cloth.

I am using Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows XP, and when I try to install the CD-ROM I get the following error message like: "You must be an Administrator to install programs on this computer"

With Windows NT, 2000, and XP you must be logged on as an Administrator before you can install the software. If you do not have administration rights and are working in a network, ask your network administrator to install the software.

I cannot hear any sounds

Double-click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of you screen (near the time). Make sure the: Master Out, Wave Balance, CD Balance and other levels are all activated. If there is a tick in the "Mute" box, remove it. Also check that your speakers are connected, and the volume control is turned up. If you still cannot hear any sounds you may need to update your sound drivers - see the FAQ below.
If you have installed the Longman Advanced American Dictionary, click here for further suggestions.
